Man guilty of indecency
A sickness beneficiary has been remanded in custody awaiting sentence on four charges of sexual indecency involving a young boy. The defendant, aged 31, who has interim name suppression, faced trial on the charges in the High Court at Christchurch before Mr Justice Robertson
and a jury. The defendant changed his plea to guilty part-way through the trial on two charges of inducing the boy to do an indecent act upon him. The jury was left to consider two charges of sexually violating the boy. Jurors returned a guilty verdict at 12.15 p.m. yes-
terday after deliberating for 70 minutes. The offences were committed between September, 1987, when the boy was aged nine, and late in December 1988. The defendant, represented by Mr Emo Bedo, will be sentenced on September 14.
Miss Catherine Cull appeared for the Crown.
