Leyland DAF Vehicles Band is the last to be heard in the series Strike Up The Band, National Radio 9.30 this evening. Formed in 1946, Leyland is comparatively new on the band scene, but was 8.8. C. Band of the Year in 1985. The offering goes from “Teddy Bear’ Picnic” to Verdi’s “Force of Destiny” overture.

Idiosyncratic Austra-lian-born Percy Grainger was one of the most original characters in 20thcentury English and American music. He made his name as a flamboyant virtuoso pianist, a collector and arranger of folk music and a composer in a breezy popular style.
