Golden Kiwi draw now history
PA Auckland An Auckland tobacconist, Mr Frank King, was written into the history books yesterday when the Golden Kiwi Lottery was drawn for the last time in Wellington. Mr King sold the winning ticket, 301481, missing the mark himself by only a hundred or so
tickets in the two-minute draw which ended the lottery’s 60-year history. Early yesterday, lottery organisers were trying to reach the winners, with the nom de plume of Bunty and Bounder, but were unsuccessful. The lottery was phased out
because it was failing to make a profit. Sales for the final $3 draw were higher than usual but lottery organisers are well into their plans with a replacement, the scratch for cash Instant Kiwi, which starts on September 14.
