Movie poster in ‘bad taste’
NZPA London Posters advertising the New Zealand cult movie “Bad Taste” have been banned by London Underground for being in bad taste. The posters showing an “alien,” with a death ray gun slung around his neck, making a one-finger gesture were considered likely to upset commuters. “I don’t know what the gesture means in New Zealand but in this country, it carries a fairly clear and distinct message and that’s .... you,” a London Underground spokesman said. »
“We weren't prepared to risk offending our customers by agreeing to let the posters be displayed in our stations.” . The decision was not intended as any judgment on the film and the advertisers had been invited to submit fresh ideas for a poster display. The spokesman said London Underground knew from experience that the posters would have led to complaints from commuters. The film, which has played to packed houses in New Zealand for months, is due to open in London soon.
