Plans for grounds
At present the Cashmere Wanderers Soccer Club is re-applying to lease a four-hectare ground in Worsleys Road, Lower Cashmere.
The club plans to develop a modern sports facility with three senior soccer pitches and two junior pitches. During summer, two cricket pitches will be set up.
“Plans are being drawn up for our new club rooms by a leading Christ-
church architect, Tony Ussher, of Hey, Skews and Ussher,” says Mr Colin Rhodes, the club’s promotions manager.
“The proposed building will be extremely attractive and will blend in with the environment. Landscaping and on-site car parking are also proposed.
“With these facilities, the club aims to be the leading Canterbury sports organisation. We will definitely have the best
facilities for our members.
“If the proposed sports ground goes ahead it will be a valuable asset for the community. Local young people will have somewhere to go and be involved in sport in both winter and summer.” The Canterbury Wanderers will welcome all new members who want to play social or competitive sport. Prospective members should contact Mr Rhodes. His telephone number is 325-928.
