Soviet soccer coach to visit
A leading Russian soccer coach, Yuri Semin, will visit New Zealand next year as part of the “Sports Uplift” programme devised by the Hillary Commission and the New Zealand Football Association.
The programme is designed so that the coaching resources and expertise of the Soviet Union will assist the development of New Zealand soccer.
Mr Semin, who is the head coach of Locomotiv Moscow, will visit in February-March to help the All Whites coach, lan Marshall, and other N.Z.F.A. coaches to establish and start work with a special development squad. Mr Semin is expected to return for up to six months later next year. Before his arrival, a broadbased sports delegation from the Soviet Union will be hosted by the Hillary Commission in January for general discussions on topics of mutual interest.
