Spring school draws big roll

Akaroa’s first “Spring School” has attracted more than 130 people keen to learn a variety of creative skills.
The school started on August 28 and will end tomorrow. It has been organised by the Akaroa Arts Council and offers tuition in activities such as painting, calligraphy, creative fabric, massage, tai chi, embroidery, and floral art. A member of the Akaroa Arts Council, Mrs Lee Warren, said the idea grew out of the Aoraki Festival and seminars on herbs and healthy living held at the Herb Farm in Akaroa.
Mrs Warren hopes the school will become an annual event. While Akaroa was already well known as a tourist centre, it was also ideal for a learning and relaxation area, she said. Banks Peninsula had an active artistic community and the Akaroa Arts Council was particularly lively. Cultural events including lunchtime concerts are being held with the spring school.
