Son imprisoned for GST fraud, father on P.D.
PA Wellington A Wellington man found guilty of GST fraud was jailed for a year on Tuesday in the District Court at Wellington. Vaughan Wayne Morley, aged 28, self-em-ployed, was also ordered to pay $115,000 reparation. His father, Arthur Lister Renwicke Morley,
aged 59, unemployed, of Trentham, was also found guilty of GST fraud and sentenced to four months periodic detention. Judge Rabone described Vaughan Morley as the instigator and said jail was appropriate in spite of the hardship it would cause to his pregnant wife. Serious commercial
fraud needed to be deterred, he said. Arthur Morley was a first offender and almost destitute, Judge Rabone said. It was sad that he should be convicted at this stage of his life. In June a jury found the two guilty of five charges of using GST forms with intent to defraud.
