Police cuts
Sir, —Police cuts have got to stop. Christchurch residents are appalled at losing yet more front-line police. The Government’s hidden agenda becomes more apparent as it moves to shift more and more costs from central to local government; i.e., ratepayers, who in this city do not want any more costs on their rates. Pressure will be put on councils to influence the Government to do something. The reply could well be that if we want more police we pick up the bill — and that is a situation we do not want. —Yours, etc., DAVID COX. August 28, 1989.
