Two members of the Christchurch Organists Association, Mr Bernard Bicknell (standing), and Mr John Dodgshun, at the Lyttelton Museum with an old pipe organ which has returned to Lyttelton after many years on the other side of the Port Hills.
The single manual and pedal pipe organ with five stops was one of several small instruments built in Christchurch for Milner and Thompson by George Sandford. It was built in 1885 for the West
Lyttelton Anglican Church of St Saviour and remained there until the church was closed. The organ and the church were then moved to Cathedral Grammar School and the organ was later moved to the Anglican Church of the Epiphany at Hanmer.
It was bought recently with money from the West Lyttelton Organ Preservation Fund and moved to the Lyttelton Museum by members of the Christchurch Organists Association.
