Peters under attack over Mana comment
PA Wellington The Opposition spokesman on Maori affairs and employment, Mr Winston Peters, has evaluated information on the Mana Enterprise scheme wrongly, the Maori Affairs Department’s employment secretary, Eru Manuera, said. Mr Peters said that Mana was in a shocking mess and some jobs claimed to have been created by it simply did not exist. He also said some loans were provided as cheaply as one per cent — sourc-
ing his information to statistics from the Iwi Transition Agency. “Once again, in his haste to find fault with worthy initiatives Mr Peters may only succeed in misleading the public,” Mr Manuera said. The information Mr Peters used was supplied by the Minister of Maori Affairs, Mr Wetere, in response to questions in the House, not by the Iwi Transition Agency, that did not even exist, he said. No Mana loan had been provided at an interest rate of one per cent.
