‘Spring’s Here’ festival begins

The “Spring’s Here” festival will begin on Friday with a wide range of inner-city entertainment being offered including music, dance, drama, magic, juggling and clowns. “Spring’s Here” is organised by Inner City Promotions based at the Christchurch City Council. The daily diet of varied entertainment will run until October Jo Tamaira and his five-piece Jazz Blues band will perform from 12.30 to 1.30 p.m. in Cathedral
Market and Food Fair. On Friday the City of Christchurch Town Crier, Mr Stephen Symons, will be introduced to the public of Christchurch at a short ceremony in Cathedral Square at midday. To celebrate the first day of “Spring’s Here” there will be continuous entertainment in Cathedral Square on Friday from 12 midday until 3. p.m. There will be fun for the children with a merry-go-round, the Flying Mat Cnmnanv and Natural Maeic.
On stage the instrumental band “One Leg Too Short” will perform, Oma Hita will sing jazz, and the Puawai dancers from the Polynesian Performing Arts will entertain. Highlights of “Spring’s Here” will include a Spring Festival organised with the help of the Canterbury Horticultural Society in South Hagley Park on September 23 and 24. On Sunday, October 8, from 11 a.m. until sunset a Youth mardi gras will be held in North Hagley Park. It wil be an extravaganza for vouth and families.
