Members of the Tramway Workers’ Union have voted to amalgamate with the Canterbury Westland Transport Workers’ Union, formerly the Drivers’ Union. At a stop-work meeting 163 out of 188 bus drivers voted to amalgamate. The branch seertetary of the Tramway Workers’ Union, Mr Brian Smith, said the Christchurch Transport Board would become part of the new Christchurch City Council and union members would have more strength by amalgamating.
