Gower ‘wants job’
NZPA-AAP London David Gower wants to lead the England cricket team on its forthcoming tour of the West Indies and is ready to tell the chairman of selectors, Ted Dexter, to consider him, according to a report yesterday. The tabloid newspaper “Today” said Gower would resist intense pressure from the public, media and some cricketing officials to resign after four heavy Ashes defeats against Australia. It said Gower’s decision to stand as skipper would help the England committee when it deliberated next week to choose the tour captain.
