BASKETBALL Two handicapped knock-out tournaments were held recently to wind up the mid-week basketball competition in Cowles Stadium. Taxes (men’s fourth division), narrowly won the mixed men’s and women's division four and five tournament, overcoming a 32-point handicap to narrowly beat the plucky Blues (women’s fourth division) in the final, 58-56. Each game lasted 15 min.
Checkers, the women’s fourth division team, played gamely with its 38-point handicap over Taxes to force a 64-64 score in one semi-final, but lost it on the shoot-out. ' Blues beat Hawks B (men’s fifth division), in the other semi-final, 58-54, making it the first women's team to reach the final.
Donnells (women’s fifth division) beat the Toads, (fifth division), 38-34, in the final of the women’s knock-out for division four, five and six.

Mixed knock-out.— Quarterfinals: Blues (women’s fourth division) 60 (42), Mt Herbert (men’s fourth) 54 (14); Hawks B (men’s fifth) 36 (20), Blues (men’s fifth) 28 (14); Taxes (men's fourth) 37 (6), Orients B (men’s fourth) 30 (10); Checkers (women’s fourth) 64 (48), Toads (women’s fifth) 54 (42). Semi-finals: Blues 58 (44), Hawks B 54 (20), Taxes 65 (10), Checkers 64 (48). Final: Taxes 58 (10), Blues 56 (42).
