Brass concert

The Brass Ensemble of the Christchurch School of Instrumental music will give this week’s Friday lunchtime concert at the Great Hall of the Arts Centre.

Directed by Mark Hodgkinson. The group meets weekly to rehearse music from a variety of periods and styles. Much of the music is originally composed for brass, but the group also prepares transcriptions of other works from the Venetian school, the early Renaissance, the German Baroque and the Romantic periods, as well as twentieth century works. The members of the group performing on September 1 are Andrew Weir and Craig Readhead, trumpet, Julian Weir, French horn, Duncan Cambridge, trombone, and Lesley Callander, tuba. The programme will include a suite by Elgar, three dances by Tilman Susato and Canzonas by Andriano Banchien. The concert will begin at 1.10 p.m.
