Ayres seriously ill
The Awapuni jockey, Peter Ayres, was still Seri- • ously ill in Christchurch Hospital last evening after a fall at Riccarton on Saturday. Ayres was admitted to the hospital’s intensive - care unit with head injuries after his mount, Son Of Jason, fell -in the Koral Steeplechase. He later underwent an operation. Earlier in the day Ayres had fallen from Just Reward in the Trial Hurdles, and between his two falls he rode Lutu to victory in a flat race.
