Pregnancy leads to new role
C.B.S. is surrendering to Julia Duffy’s “battle of the bulge?” While the expectant mother is on leave from “Newhart,” she’ll star with her writer/producer husband as his pregnant wife in a reunion cruise of “The Love Boat” . “It’s great,” Duffy tells a reporter during a break in filming “The Love Boat: The Valentine Voyage.” “We get to work together, cruise the Caribbean — and I don’t have to disguise the fact that I, too, am pregnant” A few seasons back, Duffy, who plays the spoiled Stephanie on “Newhart” spent most of her time on screen standing behind counters or creatively slouching beneath pillows to hide her -pregnancy. /■ is how expecting her Acond child. —Lia.
