China executes two for ‘crimes’
NZPA-AFP Peking Two suspects were executed in China’s central city of Wuhan on the week-end for crimes allegedly committed during pro-democracy protests there, the Xinhua news agency said. They were among 14 people sentenced by an intermediate court in Wuhan where activists had blocked rail traffic on the strategic Yangtze River bridge to press demands for more democracy in China. People accused of
blocking railways and highways were among the others sentenced. The official news agency, in a dispatch late on Sunday, indicated they got prison sentences, but it failed to give further details. It said Yu Chunting and Guo Zhenghu were executed immediately after their verdict was handed down on Saturday for stealing weapons and murdering a pregnant woman and girl while robbing a Wuhan home during the so-called turmoil. It did not say the date when the crime occurred.
