in Wellington Last week’s Budget is good news for those with bad backs and other ailments requiring paramedical treatment. The Minister of Labour, Mr Rodger, said yesterday that Budgetnight legislation will enable .the Government to authorise A.C.C. Hpy-
ments to certain paramedical groups. . i Last year, A.C.C. payments to I groups such as chiropractors and ] counselling services were stopped by a'legal anomaly. The Court of Appeal had strictly i limited the A.C.C.’s powers to pay i for paramedical treatment, ruling J that only physiotherapy was for compensation. g i
But amendments to the Accident Compensation Act 1982 are contained in the Finance Act (No. 5), passed after the Budget. Changes still need to be made to regulations which will specify which paramedical groups can give A.C.C.paid treatment and at what cost Mr Rodger said .these changes., would be made before December. *
