Friends help out
Friends of a murder victim, Gregory Chapman, have raised about $450 to help. his family meet unexpected expenses arising from the death. A spokesman, who asked not to be named, said the family expenses had included flying to Auckland. “We felt we should perhaps make a collection,” he said. The Haiswell Rugby League Club, for which Mr Chapman played when he lived in Christ-
church, raised’ about $2OO on Saturday evening. The friends raised a further $250 by visiting the Suburbs. Rugby Clubrooms, the Hoon Hay Working Men’s Club, Spreydon Tennis Club and the Black Horse Inn — all of which Mr Chapman used to frequent The spokesman said he hoped to wrap up the appeal quickly and intended giving the family a cheque tomorrow, the day of Mr Chapman’s funeral in Christchurch.
