Japanese flood London hotels

NZPA London Japanese visitors are flooding London hotels — not in numbers but with their bath water. Japanese businessmen and tourists have become notorious for flooding adjacent bedrooms, ruining carpets and furniture and for leaks through floors which cause electrical short-circuits and make ceiling plaster rot. The traditional methods of the Japanese bathing ritual is to blame. The Japanese sit in hotel baths with the taps running fully and the plug out to ensure a constant flow of water. However, the taps run faster than the drains can get rid of the water so there is an overflow. Businessmen are also known to stand naked in the middle of the bathroom while their wives douse them with cupfuls of water. A spokesman for London’s St James Court Hotel said, “We have learnt that Japanese businessmen are extremely messy.”

Other leading hotels report similar aquatic problems with the Japanese and have found notices in the travellers’ native language are of little use.
