Japanese students meet Mayor

Four Japanese students on a three-week educational and cultural trip to Christchurch are enjoying ski-ing, horse-riding, tenpin bowling, visiting the museum ... and meeting the Mayor. The students, part of a group of 60 from a girls’ college, have been studying English at the South Pacific English Centre in the city. ; The group are on one of the centre’s short intensive courses which are run as an educational holiday, and about 200 students are billeted throughout the city. The course director, Ms Mary Williams, said the students’ request to meet Christchurch’s Mayor was not unusual. “A group of students studying at our Ashburton centre recently asked to visit the Mayor there,” she said.
