Prince’s yacht crashes
PA-AAP Cowes, Isle of Wight Prince Philip’s former sailing career took a battering on Saturday when the yacht he was steering collided with another in a race off Cowes on the Isle of Wight. The Prince was competing in an inshore trophy race as part of Cowes Week, the regatta held jointly with the Admiral’s Cup series. According to the Cowes Combined Clubs sailing officials, who organise Cowes Week, the Prince’s chartered Sigma 38 class boat. Yeoman’s XXVIII, collided with Amadeus while rounding a buoy. Amadeus lodged a protest and Yeoman’s XXVIII registered a counter protest. In a two-and-a-half hour jury committee hearing, the Prince’s boat was disqualifed from the race. The crew of Amadeus had no comment to make to the press
