Junior Press

Hello, July 29 to August 6 is conservation week. The theme is the changing land. Have you ever wondered what the land would look like if there was no city of Christchurch? Most of Christchurch used to be swamp land. Moas, pukekos, bittern and many other lowland birds would have once lived in your area. Under the soil in your garden or playground might be river stones, peat or even solid rock from ancient volcanos. The Port Hills and Banks Peninsula were largely covered in native forest. If. you visit Kennedys Bush or Riccarton Bush you can see how the land may have looked. ‘ Remember conservation is an on-going process, look around and notice the changes in your own street, park or school. Each week Room 10, of Ham School, publish a one page newspaper. I visited these busy six and seven-year-olds last week and today’s “Junior Press” page is the result of their activities* Thank you. /x ° ° A
