Talks on future of museum
Changes to the Canterbury Museum Trust Board Act required as a result of amalgamation are to be discussed at a special board meeting at the museum next week. Board members will discuss the future composition of the board, its size, functions and the levies it charges the new local authorities. The Local Government Commission last year opted to allow the museum to remain a separate and independent entity after amalgamation.
A board member, Sir Hamish Hay, said the board would have no show of getting its amendment suggestions finalised before amalgamation. He emphasised the urgency of the matter. The board voted to host a party to celebrate the end of its term of office and to honour the work done by museum volunteers.
