This Unit is located in a well equipped University Department and the research is based on specific animal flocks held at the Invermay Agricultural Centre 15km away. Applications are invited for three science technicians to expand the research of the group. POSITION I: VACANCY NO. MTS 89/7 This position is for a science technician to coordinate all the animal requirements of the Unit including the collection and processing of blood samples from the appropriate animals, keeping records of all flocks and assisting with the management of computerised data bases. Applicants must be careful and accurate in their ' work, capable of combining field work, laborato- ' ry procedures arid the maintenance of flock re- ' cords to the high standards required of this key position. Experience in at least two aspects of either animal management, computing and/or laboratory procedures Is essential and additional training will be provided. Minimum qualifications: Diploma In Agriculture or NZCS. POSITION II: VACANCY NO. MTS 89/8 (Two vacancies, one Is a salaried position, the other a one year temporary position reviewable after one year) These positions involve the analysis of DNA samples from selected animals using gel electrophoresis, DNA transfer, detection of DNA sequences using DNA and RNA probes and the development of additional probes through the construction of various sheep DNA libraries. Applicants must have experience in a research laboratory and be capable of accurate work without supervision. Experience In recombinant DNA techniques would be an advantage. Minimum qualification required for these positions Is a University degree or NZCS in the biological sciences.
