DEC VAX computers, operating under VMS, are located at Auckland, Palmerston North, Lower Hutt, Wellington, and Christchurch, and are interconnected through DSIR’s extensive communications network. A vacancy has arisen for a Node Manager at our Wellington site which is located with DSIR’s Applied Mathematics Division at Victoria University. The duties will include: • Management of a VAX installation (currently a Local Area VAX cluster) and associated communications network equipment. • Liaison with local management and user groups including user and support and user education. • Tracking local research interests and assessing on-going computing resource requirements. • Production of VAX system software. Ideally, the successful applicant will have a mixture of the following skills and interests. • A tertiary qualification in Science or Engineering. • A good working knowledge of the VAX/VMS operating system, together with some experience Of MS-DOS and UNIX. • Good communications skills and the ability to i work as part of a team. • A proven record of software development preferably using the Pascal or C programming languages.
