Alcoa prospects
Alumina and aluminium producer, Alcoa of Australia, said prospects for the second half of 1989 were favourable, but retreating prices may prevent it repeating the record profits reported in the first six months. The unlisted venture between Aluminium Co of America and Western Mining Corporation Holdings announced a 120 per cent jump in first half net profit to sAust376.2 million (5NZ496.96M) after a 58 per cent leap in sales to $1.39 billion ($1.84B). The half year result exceeded the $357.9M profit for all of 1988 which was more than double the 1987 net profit.
