Comalco smelts more
Comalco’s primary aluminium production report for the second quarter shows aluminium production rose almost 2.2 per cent to 198,864 tonnes in the first half ended June 30, against the record 1988 full-year output of 396,031. Shipments of metal grade bauxite rose to 2.5 million tonnes in the three months to June 30, up from 2.1 M tonnes in the same period a year earlier, making 4.8 M tonnes for the first half against the 1988 full-year shipments of 8.6 tonnes. Bauxite production rose to 2.4 M tonnes in the second quarter from 2.3 M tonnes in the same period of 1988, making 4.8 M tonnes for the half, against 8.9 M tonnes for all of 1988.
