R.J.I. under scrutiny
The Securities Commission has begun legal action against Robt Jones Investments, Ltd, and its chairman, Sir Robert Jones, for allegedly failing to supply information to a commission hearing.
The action relates to RJ.l.’s on-again off-again purchase of the Price Waterhouse Centre building in Auckland, from Chase Corporation. The commission, which yester-
day made details of the dispute public, questions the decision to strike the purchase at $145 million, rather than the $135 million initially discussed, and R.J.l.’s announcement which described the deal as completed, but made no mention of attached conditions. Sir Robert said the commission’s investigation was a waste of taxpayers’ money. Details, Business, page 27
