Mururoa debate pledge
French Polynesia will hold a special session of its territorial Parliament next month to discuss the short and long-term effects of French nuclear tests on Mururoa atoll. Mr Alexandre Leontieff, the Territorial Chief Minister, told anti-nuclear hunger-strikers that the activities of the Pacific testing centre (CEP) would be debated on August 17. The pro-independence Polynesia Liberation Front activists called off their hunger-strike after these assurances.—NZPA-AFP.
