Sir, —I take strong exception to the remarks of Graeme Douglas about the National Party (July 17).. As an active party worker for many years, I know that new members are joining . the party in numbers unprece- • dented since 1974 and. that the organisation of the National. Party 'is in. an optimistic..and revitalised state, encouraged by* the .approaching opportunity IdT get rid of this Government. Any “disillusionment amdng the voting public”, is surely as a result of the false expectations raised by the Labour:Government and despair in the face of a breakdown of social and economic systems in OUr. ; society.. The National Party, as evidenced by its extensive leaden ..the opinion polls consistently for the last* 18months, is pn course to become the; next/.Government This , is . regardless of who wins the presi- - dency of the party and ! suggest that’Graeme - Douglas does, the; party a grave'disservice to sug- - igest -otherwise. — Yours, etc., ? : ROS BURDON; • - July 18, 1989.
