Bungee ban on Kangaroos

NZPA-AAP Auckland The Australian team management has unofficially banned any bungee jumping in New Zealand by members of its touring rugby league squad. Reports that the tour skipper, Wally Lewis, and coach, Bob Fulton, would take the daring leap into space have not been well received in Australia.

Bungee jumping is New Zealand’s latest thrill-seeking craze. It involves the participant leap-

ing off a bridge about 45m above the water, with just:a tensioned rubber rope as his lifeline. Lewis and Fulton reportedly were keen to make the dare-devil jump before Sunday’s third test and World Cup qualifier against New Zealand. They had been assured by the jump organisers that there was no risk of injury. But reports filtering through to Australia apparently have not been well received by high-rank-

ing league officials. The tour manager, Mr Peter Moore, yesterday would not confirm that management had called off the planned bungee jump after pressure from home. He did not deny, however, that the players had been told the jump was off. Lewis and Fulton might make the jump anyway, but officially they will do it without the consent of the Australian team management.
