Youth bashed on head with club
A youth bashed on the head with a Maori war club at a gang party in St Albans was discharged from hospital yesterday. Troy Pope, aged 18, suffered a broken nose and lacerations when he was attacked by another man at a Mongrel Mob house in Geraldine Street at 1.25 a.m. on Wednesday.
He was taken to Christchurch Hospital with a suspected skull fracture, but discharged later in the day.
His female companion, Moana Ashby, aged 18, was also admitted to hospital for observation after being beaten when trying to intervene in the attack. Detective Senior-Ser-geant Colin Dalzell said Mr Pope was hit on the forehead with the war club during a fight with a gang member. The pair would not cooperate with police and refused to lay a complaint, said Detective Senior-Sergeant Dalzell.
