Heart-rending turn-of-century story
“A Summer Story,” based on John Galsworthy’s romantic short story, “The Apple Tree,” will begin at the Academy today. It is one of the loveliest and yet most heart-rending films to reach the screen in years. It is set in turn-of-the-century England,
and boasts a cast of British performers headed by two newcomers, Imogen Stubbs, critically acclaimed in the British film, “Nanou," and James Wilby, joint winner of the Venice Film Festival Best Actor Award for his starring role in “Maurice.”
