New book for soap opera addicts

NZPA-AAP Brisbane Television soap opera addicts can work themselves into a lather over a book being produced by Brisbane’s Griffith University lecturer, Mr Albert Moran. Mr Moran, a senior lecturer in film and media studies, is producing a new edition of his book, “Australian Television Drama Series.” The book will include details of television drama series that have appeared since 1981 and give a' synopsis of 163 series, going back to classics such as “Bellbird,” “Homicide” and “Number 96,” Mr Moran says.

It will include information about the individual soaps, such as number of episodes, when a show first went to air, format, cast and crew. Mr Moran ploughed through old television guides and approached production companies and television networks for information. Mr Moran says the key to soap opera’s success is pace and realism. “Australians like to see Australian faces, places and accents and the old Holden going along the streets of Melbourne doesn’t hurt,” he says.
