Change labour laws —Bolger

By

OLIVER RIDDELL

in Wellington Reforming the labour laws will be one of the first legislative actions of the next National Government, according to the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Bolger. He told Federated Farmers’ annual conference that this reform would create the climate needed to allow the meat industry to deal with the challenge to change. The meat industry’s survival required it to regroup, to increase productivity, to develop more sophisticated products, and to win consumer loyalty for those products in the supermarkets with

international marketing and promotion. Mr Bolger hoped to see the main exporters volun-' tarily form a big marketing group in Europe. - It was going to take a significant investment in marketing right up to the supermarket chain, and all the economies of scale, to stay competitive in the European Community after 1992. The farmer producer had to receive a greater share of the market price for the product, he said. Reform of the Labour laws would bring back voluntary unionism and encourage industry, and regional and workplace agreements between workers and employers.
