Health Bd will auction old stock

Old stock ranging from dentists* chairs to light bulbs and spittoons will be auctioned by the Canterbury Health Board tomorrow as part of its costcutting. • >; The board’s executive manager, support services, Mr David Dawe, said yesterday, over-full warehouses and demands for savings meant the board had to get rid of tonnes of unwanted stores. The auction, at Turners Auctions in Blenheim Road, would be the biggest run on the board’s account, Mr Dawe said. Its last similar auction was about three years ago. He hoped the auction would raise about $lO,OOO. “The squirrel mentality has tended to prevail over the years and we have accumulated a lot of stock that we no longer need,” he said. The board intended to buy what it needed locally, or, where that was not available, take advantage of , swifter delivery services available today. The auction would not leave the board short of important items often needed urgently by the region’s hospitals, he said.
