Awapuni Awapunui correspondent Zamaliza could be one of the best Awapunui prospects for the Manawatu Hunt Club’s meeting on Saturday. The mare worked well through the mud and slush at Awapuni yesterday morning and she appears to have freshened well since running third at the Hawke’s Bay meeting. Zamaliza won at Awapuni during the June meeting and with Noel Harris up this week-end she could be in with a winning chance. Working on the course proper which was extremely heavy, Zamaliza ran 800 metres in 58 seconds, the last 600 m in 435. She pulled up well and Chris McNab has her in good order for Saturday. Norfolk Duke, another engaged here at the week-end, covered 1000 metres in 1:15, the last 600 m in 455, and he looks improved by a recent outing at Wanganui. Tyntacs required 1 minute 28 seconds for an easy 1200 metres, the last 600 m in 435. He was placed at Awapuni last month and had no luck in his last start at Hastings, and could trouble his rivals at Awapuni on Saturday. Ingeborg and Diomedes, both possible runners at Levin, left 1000 m behind in 1:13, the last 600 m in 445, and the 800 m in 565. Diomedes shows promise. Reinvest and Keswick, neither racing this week, took 1:1 to run 800 metres and they seemed to handle the ground pretty well. Noble Bay, which will race at Levin next week, worked with a Zamazaan gelding over 800 m in 58s, the last 600 m in 435. Charvet, in at Levin and on trial for Riccarton, left 800 metres behind in 555, the last 600 m in 41s. She looks to have thrived since her winning run on the first day at Trentham. Hastings Hastings correspondent Chibuku, preparing for the Manawatu Hunt meeting on Saturday put in an impressive solo run yesterday morning at the Hastings track session, where Ripples and Decker also worked well. Fast work was mainly confined to the No. 1 grass, where the ground was heavy. Heavy fog prevented the timing of several gallops. Chibuku (Thompson) worked over a round, being timed from the 1200-metre peg in J minute 28 seconds. No sectional times were possible in the fog. Trainer, Paul Nelson, will run Chibuku in the bracelet at Saturday’s Manawatu Hunt meeting, where the horse was to carry 73.5 kilograms. He will then contest the brush hurdles at Levin next week.

Decker (Sergeant) looked to be working well at the end of 800 metres, the last 600 m taking 395. He is a promising two-year-old by Leader Of The Band out of Janice, trained by Dianne Sergeant. He ran second to the impressive Floating Currency at last week’s Waipukurau trials. Going (Tonge), another which showed up well at the Waipukurau trials, went with Another Kiwi (Frethey) over 800 metres in 545. Going is coming along nicely. The stablemates. Ripples (Cleghorn) and Purple Blend (McGifford), ran 800 metres together in 53.55, one of the best of the morning. Ripples looks improved by her outing at last week’s Waipukurau trials. Woodville Woodville correspondent Our High Noon galloped boldly at Woodville yesterday morning, indicating he has thrived since his runaway win on the first day at Trentham. He will contest a 1600metre three-year-old event at the Waipa meeting on Saturday, his trainer, Wayne Herbert, said. Our High Noon also has the’Winter Cup at Riccarton on his programme. Fast work took place on the inside grass, which was soft, though in reasonable order for this time of the year. ; Our High Noon ran 1000 m in 1 minute 3 seconds the last 600 m in 36.75. He picked up Lesvos on the way and the latter ran a sound trial for the two-year-old event at the Opunake meeting at Hawera today. A race rival, Bugatti, clocked 51.3 for 800 m, the last 600 m in’ 36.7. He shows promise. Zamahl’s Pride ran 1200 m in 1:19.7. He is likely to run at Awapuni and when he gets away on terms with his rivals he will win a maiden race. Suzy Harbour and Hot Cakes took 1:5 for 1000 m, the last 600 m in 39.65. No Value and Garabaldi ran 1200 m in 1:20.1, the last 600 m in 38.35. Both could race at Awapuni on Saturday. Kate’s Myth clocked 51 for 800 m, the final 600 m in 37.15, and is coming to hand well.
