Second bird stolen

Another cockatoo has been stolen from a Christchurch pet shop. The male, aged one, was taken cage and all, from Pet World, Woolston, on Monday morning — the same day an older bird stolen from Hornby a month ago was returned to its owner. The owner of Pet World, Mrs Karla Himsel, said the bird, valued at $llOO, was stolen by two men.
“One came into the shop and said his dog had constipation. The other one stayed outside,” she said yesterday. “It wasn’t until later in the afternoon, I realised the cockatoo and the cage were missing.” A month ago, a pet cockatoo, Shiro, was stolen from Gardenways in Hornby. An anonymous telephone call to the police on Sunday said Shiro and his cage could be found on the steps of the Hornby Bowling Club.
