Strong bidding at Hororata deer sale
Weaner hinds attractd a strong bidding gallery at the second annual Heatherlea Deer Park sale at Hororata with 150 selected red deer selling at an average of $493. The top price of $570 was paid for two pens of five which had average weights of 55.2 kg and 54.6 kg. Sixteen 18-month hinds sold from $925 to $1075, while eight 2>A .year-old hinds sold for $9OO each.
The auctioneer for Pyne Gould Guinness, Mr Ron Schroeder, said there were 40 registered buyers from South Canterbury to Blenheim and Nelson. Most of the lots remained reasonably local. The animals were well presented in spite of the property suffering its second drought in a row. The sale was conducted by Pyne, Gould, Guinness Ltd, and Wrightsons. Prices, with average weights in brackets, were: Weaner hinds: five at $550 (59kg), five at $520 (54.8), 10 at $570 (five 55.2, five 54.6), 10 at $515 (53.6, 52.8), 10 at $5OO,
53.4, 50.8), 10 at $5OO (51.2, 49.4), 10 at $5OO (47.6), five at $495 (49.6), five at $4BO (47.8), 10 at $475 (47.8, 49), 10 at $450 (47, 46.8), 10 at $460 (47.2, 46), 10 at $460 (45.8), 10 at $450 (46.8), 10 at $475 (47.4), 10 at $490 (47, 46.2), five at $505 (44.2), five at $490 (44.4) 18-month hinds: four at $1075 (92kg), four at $950 (91.5) four at $950 (90), four at $925 (89.5). 2}4-year-old hinds: four at $9OO (97kg), four at $9OO (93.5).
