Electricity shake-up

PA Wellington The Government’s planned shake-up of the electricity industry is still to be discussed by the Cabinet, six weeks after Ministers received the recommendations of a $l.B million industry task force.

A spokeswoman for the Minister of Energy, Mr Butcher, said the Government would decide what to do with the task force’s report after it had got all of its papers.

The only task force paper not in Government hands is a "plain English” version of the report

The task force’s recommendations on ownership and deregulation of the electricity industry were presented to the Government at the beginning of last month. At the time the two most interested Ministers, Mr Butcher and the Minister for State-Owned Enterprises, Mr Rodger, were overseas.
