lan Edwards Quintet at Arts Centre

Christchurch’s jazz musicians come together in concert at the Arts Centre on July 23. In a partnership with Jazz South, the Arts Centre will present the third in a series of jazz performances in the Great Hall between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. The lan Edwards Quintet will be supported by other local musicians during the concert. The concerts have featured established local jazz musicians who are well-known in Christchurch and beyond, such as Doug Caldwell’s Trio, Swing ’42 and Stu Buchanan. Lesser known local musicians have also been playing, and at the other end of the scale, intemationally-renowned jazz trombonist Bob Havens was the special guest at the last concert lan Edwards is widely recognised as an outstanding jazz clarinetist and saxophone player. The quintet is completed by Murray Warner on piano; Bob Heinz on guitar; Viv Langabeer on drums and Vince Clarke on electric bases. From Christchurch, lan Edwards first studied the clarinet at high school and later went on to join the Bob Bradford Winter Garden Orchestra. He appeared at the Montreux Jazz Festival as guest soloist in 1981 with the Rodger Fox Big Band and has toured New Zealand with international artists.
