Mr R. B. Lovell-Smith
Mr Rodney Brian Lo-vell-Smith, a former partner in the Christchurch planning and surveying firm, Davie, Lovell-Smith, died recently. Mr Lovell-Smith was born in Christchurch in 1912, the eldest son of a city architect, Mr Roy Lovell-Smith. Mr Brian Lovell-Smith began his association with Mr Lewis Davie when he
began at Davie and Harris as a survey cadet in 1929. He served in World War II in Fiji, the Middle East, the Western Desert and Italy. After the war he returned to work for Mr Davie, gaining registration from the New Zealand Survey Board in 1945. He became a partner in 1951. Mr Lovell-Smith was a
keen follower of cricket and a founding member of the Canterbury Astronomical Society. He worked voluntarily at the Canterbury Museum, sorting and cataloguing its map collection. He also worked for a short time for the Christchurch branch of the National Archives. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
