P.D. for two-day test drive
A man released from prison on parole who walked straight to a nearby car dealer’s yard and took a $21,000 car on an “exhaustive” two-day test drive has been sentenced to periodic detention for six months. Counsel, Mr Mervyn Glue, told the District Court yesterday that the vehicle was recovered in a dirty but undamaged condition.
Peter Roy Bunton, aged 21, unemployed, left his personal papers in the abandoned vehicle which, said Mr Glue, ensured his identity. After reading a number of letters and testimonials handed to him Judge Bisphan said he was prepared to give Bunton “one last chance.”
