Presenter began as researcher
A face often seen on television filling in for the regular presenters on “Newsbreak,” the Weather and “Eyewitness News” is that of the journalist, Louise Pagonis. Born in Dunedin, Pagonis began her broadcasting career in 1981 as a researcher on “Fair Go.” A year later she moved on to work as a presenter and field reporter for “Production Line” and “Credo.” The brief on “Production Line” was to investigate a wide range of business activities in New Zealand, everything from backyard inventors to major companies, and on “Credo,” Pagonis says she enjoyed the opportunity to get into more in-depth reporting on social issues.
In 1985 she moved to the TVNZ newsroom in Wellington, and, after a three-month stint with the 8.8. C. in Birmingham in 1986, transferred to Auckland to work for “Eyewitness News.”
As well as reporting, Pagonis is now presenting “Newsbreak’’ on Two once a week, doing the Weather twice a month and reading news on “Eyewitness” in the absence of Angela D’Audney and Tom Bradley.
