K.G.B. agent’s death recorded

NZPA-Reuter Moscow The Soviet Union announced yesterday the sudden death of a 32-year-old K.G.B. agent whom it indicated had carried out key missions spying on the West’s nuclear weapons programme. An announcement from the K.G.8., the Committee of State Security, in the Defence Ministry newspaper “Krasnaya Zvezda” identified the man as Mikhail E. Orlov, and gave his cover name as Glenn Michael Souter. “M. E. Orlov had a short but full and brilliant life which was totally devoted to the struggle for removing the threat of nuclear war hanging over mankind and for a better life for ordinary people,” a K.G.B. obituary said. “Over a long period he performed important special missions and made a major contribution to ensuring the State security of the Soviet Union,” the obituary added. “This struggle demanded tremendous personal valour and the dedication of all his physical and spiritual strength. The death of Mikhail Orlov is a huge loss for all of us.”
