Disappointed Evernden out
NZPA London A bitterly disappointed Kelly Evernden was‘at a loss to explain his first-round loss to American Dan Goldie in the Wimbledon tennis championships yesterday. Evernden went down to Goldie in four sets, 7-6, 7-6, 3-6, 6-0, in two hours 48 minutes, bowing out one round before the match he desperately wanted — a third meeting at Wimbledon with American Jimmy Connors. “I’m playing well, and hitting the ball well. That’s what’s frustrating,” he said last evening.
