Exchange survey out soon
Results of the world-wide survey of stock exchanges carried out by international communications and public relations company, BursonMarsteller, are to be released to the public next week.
The survey was commissioned by the International Federation of Stock Exchanges based in Paris, which sought to identify the attitudes and concerns of business leaders, bankers and financial journalists towards the stock exchange in member countries. The Burson-Marsteller consultant, Mr Kerry Tyack, said the survey results were expected to provide some positive direction in combating
the negative image many people have of the stock exchange.
Mr Tyack said: “Judging from the responses I received from throughout the financial and business community in New Zealand, there is certainly a need for the stock exchange in this countiy to review how its operational effectiveness and responsibilities are perceived by the public.”
He said there appeared to be a generally negative attitude from the people surveyed in spite of there being some efforts by stock exchange administrators to improve this perception. “The attitude of many I
spoke to was based on past experiences of the New Zealand Stock Exchange and its management. It seems that current efforts to improve systems and facilities are going largely unnoticed by people who should know, indicating there is a block in the communications channels,” Mr Tyack said. The results of the survey, which was completed in May, were presented to the federation at a seminar for members held in Frankfurt this week. Further discussion of the survey and the resulting recommendations will be held at the annual meeting of the federation in Tokyo in September.
